Comparison of Topographic Roughness of Layered Deposits on Mars

چکیده
Impact craters with layered ejecta deposits are widespread on Mars. Prevailing views suggest that such were formed due to the involvement of target water and/or ice in impact excavation post-deposition movement ejecta. The long-runout landslides and lobate debris aprons likely used as analogs compare roughness at multiple scales, considering these three landforms share some similarities their geomorphology. Analog studies morphological differences different emplacement mechanisms an important approach untangling how might form Mars beyond. Earlier comparisons usually based qualitative descriptions or one-dimensional topographic characteristics given azimuths; however, processes recorded two-dimensional topography scales. In this study, we designed a multiwavelet algorithm characterize multi-scale forms Martian deposits. Our show inner facies exhibited similar characteristics, outer more aprons. This study highlights importance spatial resolution digital terrain models characterizing fine fluctuations deposits, providing additional insights into possible parts

Density of Mars' south polar layered deposits.
Both poles of Mars are hidden beneath caps of layered ice. We calculated the density of the south polar layered deposits by combining the gravity field obtained from initial results of radio tracking of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter with existing surface topography from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter on the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft and basal topography from the Mars Advanced Radar fo...
متن کاملon the comparison of keyword and semantic-context methods of learning new vocabulary meaning
the rationale behind the present study is that particular learning strategies produce more effective results when applied together. the present study tried to investigate the efficiency of the semantic-context strategy alone with a technique called, keyword method. to clarify the point, the current study seeked to find answer to the following question: are the keyword and semantic-context metho...

Thick sequences of layered deposits are found in the Valles Marineris, Mars [I-31. They exhibit fine, nearly horizontal layering, and are present as isolated plateaus of what may once have been more extensive deposits. Individual sequences of layered deposits are as thick as 5 km. We have argued previously that the morphology of the deposits is most consistent with origin in standing bodies of ...
متن کاملSouth Polar Layered Deposits of Mars: The cratering record
[1] Data from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) and Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) instruments aboard the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) were used in a detailed search of a selected part of the South Polar Layered Deposits (SPLD) for impact craters. Impact craters with diameters from 0.8 to 5 km were identified from a MOLA-derived shaded relief map and were primarily validated using individual MOL...
متن کاملLight-toned layered deposits in Juventae Chasma, Mars
We examine hypotheses for the formation of light-toned layered deposits in Juventae Chasma using a combination of data from Mars Global Surveyor’s Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC), Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA), and Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES), as well as Mars Odyssey’s Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS). We divide Juventae Chasma into geomorphic units of (i) chasm wall rock, (ii) ...
